Athletics play a vital role within our learning community.  William D. Pratt School is a member of the Calgary Middle Level Schools Athletic Association.  Our school teams are known as the "Mavericks".  We proudly wear Alberta Sky Blue, Calgary Sunshine Gold, Rocky Mountain Black & Canadian Winter White as we compete.

Inter-school sports are open to students in Grades 6, 7, 8 & 9.   Unfortunately, our Grade 5 students are not eligible to compete against other schools as directed by the CMLSAA.  However, we hope to run a Mini-Mavericks program for our Grade 5 & 6 students in Volleyball, Basketball & Badminton in the 2025-2026 School Year.

The CBE's Annual Authorization for Athletic Tryout form must be completed by all student-athletes interested in trying out for any school team. Parents & caregivers must complete & submit this document prior to their child attending tryouts. Selecting "Yes" for all sports is recommended as this allows for mid-year decision making process for your child. A checked "YES" does not mean the student has to try out. It just means that they can if they want to.

Beginning September 1, 2025, all prospective student-athletes wanting to play on an all-female team must submit a completed Fairness and Safety in Sport Act - Athlete Eligibility Confirmation form BEFORE attending tryouts. - This only needs to be completed once every school year and is good for all CMLSAA sanctioned sports.

2025-2026 CMLSAA Seasons of Play (Subject to Change as Required)

Parents who are interested in becoming a volunteer coach for one of our school's teams should reach out to Mr. Howat (djhowat@cbe.ab.ca) to discuss this opportunity further.  Applicants will be asked to complete the CBE's Annual Volunteer Registration form and provide a valid Police Information Check prior to the beginning of the season.  Please note that this is a multi-step process that must be completed in order for clearance to be activated:

  1. Complete the CBE Annual Volunteer Registration form.
  2. Come to the WDP Main Office with government issued ID.
  3. Receive a letter from the Main Office Staff, addressed to CPS, that states that you would like to volunteer at WDP.  This letter will not be generated until the ID provided has been verified by the Main Office staff.
  4. Use this letter to complete the ePic online (Note:  Volunteer Clearances now cost $21.25 each – WDP cannot reimburse)
  5. Once the clearance from CPS has been provided, please provide a copy to the WDP office staff.
