Safety and Security

The safety, security and well-being of every student are important at our school and we promote positive social behavior. The following are important guidelines for students to follow and be aware of:

ID Cards

One ID Cards is provided for each student free of charge following picture day in September. ID Cards are used to identify students in and around the school for many reasons.

Late Arrivals

If students arrive late to school they must sign in at the office and receive a late slip. Please see our Attendance page for more information.

Checking In or Out During the Day

If students must leave the school due to illness, appointments or for other reasons, they are to be signed out at the office by a parent/guardian or other person identified on our contact list for that child. Identification may be requested. Students will not be released to anyone not listed on the contact list without expressed consent from parents.

Fire Drills

During the year students will be involved in six pre-planned fire drills, as required by the CBE. During this time students are asked to:

  • Evacuate the building in a quick and orderly fashion. Follow the directions of the teacher.
  • Proceed to playground field and assemble in designated areas.
  • Remain outside until directed to return by the administration after a physical all-clear signal is given by the principal or designate.

If return to the school is not possible, follow directions from administration.

If we have to evacuate the school during unstructured times such as nutrition break or noon hour, proceed to your Connect class location on the field behind the school.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.

Video Surveillance Technology

The Calgary Board of Education may install and use video surveillance technology at select schools to support maintaining a safe and secure environment and to help control vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

Personal information gathered by video surveillance is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act section 4. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

This technology is considered a complement to, and not a replacement for, CBE's strategies in supporting a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for students and staff.

Approval, installation and use of video surveillance technology will comply with Administrative Regulation 1066.

For questions or concerns, please contact the school principal.
