Music Program for students in grades 5 and 6:
All students in grades 5 and 6 will be exposed to music in a variety of forms as part of their regular days. Through this class, students will develop an enjoyment of music, an awareness and appreciation of a variety of music, including music of the many cultures represented in Canada, insights into music through meaningful musical activities, self-expression and creativity, and general musical skills and knowledge.
Band Program for students in grades 7, 8, and 9:
Students will develop skills in performing, writing, evaluating and listening to music. They will study one or more instruments; brass (Trumpet, French horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba), woodwind (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone), or percussion (Bells, Xylophone, Snare, Bass Drum, Timpani, etc.). Percussionists must learn all percussion instruments. Students will have an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities at many events, assemblies and festivals/trips throughout the year. A course fee of $100 is meant to cover the rental of an instrument for the school year. Students may waive the fee if they wish to rent their own locally or own an instrument already.
