October 28 to November 1
During our professional learning day on Friday teachers continued to design intentional opportunities for differentiation of instruction for all learners.
School Pictures and Retakes
Say Cheese! Tuesday, October 29 is picture retakes day. All students who missed picture day or whose families would like new photos taken will have the opportunity on Tuesday. Please make sure your child knows that you would like their photos retaken.
Lifetouch is also offering a discount code for purchasing school photos, use code: F2410OFF to receive 10% off before July 2025.
Halloween Festivities
Our leadership students across all grades have been thoughtfully planning opportunities for students to gather, have fun, celebrate, and give back through the Halloween season. Ask your student about our Drawloween contest, door decorating, dance, carnival games, and food drive.
Costumes
On October 31, students are welcome to wear costumes to school while ensuring they meet the CBE Student Code of Conduct. Masks and weapons must remain at home.
Dance and Carnival
On October 31, all students may participate in a Halloween dance and carnival games during the afternoon. During this time our parent council will be hosting a concession of nutritious snacks for sale including vegetables and dip, popcorn mix, pita and tzaziki, and apple cider. Alternative learning spaces will be available for those that need them.
Food Drive
Howl Back at Hunger aims to collect two food item donations from each student to support our local food bank. Send donations with your student this week so we can reach our goal.
Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences
Fall conferences will take place on November 27, 28, and 29. Similar to previous years, we will follow a hybrid model, with in-person conferences taking place November 27 & 28, while virtual conferences will be offered on November 29. Additional information about booking conferences will come in future messages.
Grade 9 Trips
Expressions of interest and initial deposits for these extra-curricular trips are due Monday, October 28, 2024. Deposits will be timestamped as we collect them as these are first come, first served due to limited space on trips.
Sailing (West Coast)
Come sail the coast of British Columbia aboard the Duen or A Fine Madness. This outdoor adventure includes sailing, kayaking, and hiking to explore the biologically diverse ecosystem along the coast of Vancouver Island. Students who have previously embarked on this adventure report increased self-esteem and confidence to challenge themselves and an increased curiosity to explore.
Heritage (Eastern Canada)
Experience middle school Social Studies in action! Explore Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City through the ages, experiencing Indigenous cultures, historic wars, scenic hikes, French-Canadian food and language, and the vibrance of Eastern Canada. Students who have previously participated in this trip reported a greater understanding of Canada, its people, and structures, and a new appreciation for our history.
