General Health Measures

In all matters of health, CBE takes direction from Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services. Find out how you can reduce the spread and lessen the impact of illness in school communities.

Routine Immunizations

The CBE supports the AHS school-based immunization program.

Permission to be excused from school can only be granted by the office upon request by a parent/guardian. Under no circumstances shall a student leave the school grounds during school hours without first obtaining permission from the office. Parents needing further explanation of the Attendance Policy can be directed to the office.

Attendance Line

Parents call in their student’s absences and/or lates on 403-817-3520 ext. 1

Checking In or Out During the Day

If students must leave the school due to illness, appointments or for other reasons, they are to be signed out at the office by a parent/guardian or other person identified on our contact list for that child. Identification may be requested. Students will not be released to anyone not listed on the contact list without expressed consent from parents.

Extended Absences

If a student will be absent for an extended time (generally more than three days) please see our Attendance page for more information.

Late Arrivals

If students arrive late to school they must sign in at the office and receive a late slip. Should a student have chronic problems with punctuality, teachers or administrators may assign detention time and contact will be made with home to develop an Attendance Improvement Plan (AIP).

Student Illness at School

From time to time students become ill at school. If it is a minor illness a student can rest in the main office for a brief time until it is determined that he/she is able to go back to class or should go home to recover. When a student is too ill to return to class, parents will be expected to make arrangements to pick up their child from school.

** Please notify the school of any medical problems your child(ren) may have so that we are best able to assist in the event of an emergency. School personnel are not authorized to dispense medicine to a child without written consent. A form must be completed and returned to the main office. Any kind of bump to the head or injury to the eyes is considered a serious injury. If parents or emergency contact cannot be made, the school will take an injured child for medical treatment.

Returning From an Illness

Parents are asked to be sure that students are well before returning to school. If a child must stay indoors, a dated note to that effect must be sent with the child indicating the reason and duration.

Lice

There may be times during the school year when we have cases of head lice.

If your child has head lice, please contact the school and let us know. If your child has been exposed to lice at school we will notify you.

As a precaution, we ask all parents to check their child’s head frequently for a few weeks after any exposure. You can find more information on lice from myhealth.alberta.ca.
