Well we made it! Although Spring Break looks snowier than our last break at Christmas.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Thank you to our teachers, parents and students who have participated in our Student Conferences over the past three days. These are important meetings as we prepare students to meet the academic demands of the final 3 months of the school year, it is important to put your best effort forward and finish the year strong. We appreciated the fine food shared by parents that kept staff nourished through conferences.
School Development Plan
Thank you to all the parents that completed the survey for the School Development Plan and School Fees. The results from this important survey will be shared at our next school council meeting on Wednesday, April 17 at 6pm in our staffroom. Our students in Grades, 5, 6, 8 and 9 are currently completing the CBE Student Survey which speaks to student needs, academic, social and the mental health of students. Students in Grade 7 are exempt from this survey as they recently, completed along with their parents the Alberta Assurance Survey, from the Alberta Education.

New to our building in the last two weeks are student teachers Susanah Fallis and Douglas Li who are working with Ms. Nickel, these teachers are at the start of the practicum journey, and will be graduating next year. The school also has a practicum student from Bow Valley College, Naila Fahim, who is working towards being an Educational Assistant in the classroom. Looking Ahead
Looking further ahead, Thursday, April 18, we are looking forward to hosting the Grade 4 students from Royal Oak School in the morning as we being to transition students to our school for next year. We started this process this week, when Ms. Luchenski and Mr. Fettes went down to Royal Oak School and read with the Grade 4 students, two books that students knew well “The Day the Crayons Quit” and the sequel “The Day the Crayons Came Home." On the same evening we will be hosting our Open House for all students, to see the great work our students and teachers do everyday. The open house will run from 5:30pm-7:30pm on Thursday, April 18.
We encourage students and their parents from our feeder schools, Kenneth D. Taylor and Cambrian Heights to join us on this evening. Please watch for more specific details closer to the day. We will also be meeting with the staffs of our feeder schools to share student information to help students make a seamless transition to WDP for next year! Not nearly as much fun, as open house our Grade 6 students will be receiving their vaccinations on Monday, April 22. Parents should be receiving information for their Grade 6 student soon, if they have not already.
Field Trips
April also sees final preparations continue for our two Grade 9 trips, our Grade 9 sailing trip which runs in early May and our Heritage trip towards the end of May. The mandatory parent meetings for these trips will occur on Thursday, April 11 at 6pm for the sailing trip and Wednesday April 24 at 6pm for the Heritage trip, both meetings will happen in the Learning Commons.
