Family Literacy Week

Families across Calgary are invited to join the Calgary Board of Education in celebrating Family Literacy Week from Jan. 26 to Feb. 2, to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities. Resources to engage with as a family can be found here

Safety and Security

Thank you for working together with us over the last few weeks to ensure our school is secured during the day. We will continue to use the intercom system at the main door to determine how we can help our visitors before welcoming them into our school.

Late French Immersion

Grade 6 students recieved a presentation from Branton this week regarding their late French immersion program. Families are invited to visit Branton’s open house on February 5 to learn more.

Communication

Late last year we shared that our communication strategy with families was being updated to better align with family's needs and consistency. After consulting with our teachers and communicating with our school council this week. We will be moving forward with centralizing communication. Phone calls will remain the primary method for teachers to communicate celebrations and concerns with families. While PowerSchool will remain the primary method of communicating student achievement, missing assessment, and upcoming assessments. Google Classroom (Gr5&6) & D2L (Gr7-9) will host curriculum updates for students and families, in lieu of weekly emails to famlies. While our weekly Pratt message will communicate school-wide information.

Health - Sexual Health

The sexual health outcomes of the Physical Education and Wellness (Gr5 & 6) and Health (Gr 7, 8, & 9) programs of study will be taught February 9 to 11 this year. In accordance with the ministerial order, participation in these outcomes requires parents/guardians to ‘opt in’. Copies of the ‘opt in’ form were emailed out last week and can be picked up in the office. All students who are not ‘opted in’ to these outcomes will engage in an alternate learning activity with a teacher.
