Family Literacy Week
Families across Calgary are invited to join the Calgary Board of Education in celebrating Family Literacy Week from Jan. 26 to Feb. 2, with a focus on environmental learning through the theme “Learn to Be Green, Together.” The CBE Literacy & Early Learning Team has prepared a variety of information and activities to help families engage in meaningful learning at home and at school. Reading together or doing learning activities at home is crucial to a child’s learning and development. https://www.cbe.ab.ca/news-centre/Documents/2025-Family-Literacy-Week-Visual-Version.pdf
Report Cards
Semester 1 Report card will be available to families on Monday, January 27, 2025. Families can view, download or print online report cards for students from Monday, January 27 until May 30, 2025 through MyCBE. Within MyCBE, families can also view student information, comments from your child’s teacher, assignments and grades and attendance information. Report cards summarize and communicate student achievement at a point in time. In addition to the report card, schools communicate with families about student progress on an ongoing basis in a variety of ways, including conferences, assignments, emails, and phone calls, to name a few.
Thirsk High School Tour/Open House
All grade 9 students will have an opportunity to tour their designated high school.
Students designated to Robert Thirsk will attend a tour on January 27 followed by an Open House for families the same evening from 6 pm to 8 pm. A signed form must be submitted to the Grade 9 Connect teacher.
Gratitude goes out to our School Council, who are supporting our Grade 9 students by covering the cost of an additional bus to transport them to Thirsk.
High School Transfers
Families can apply for their students to be considered for a high school transfer from February 1 to March 15. Applications for transfer are available based on specialized programs and course pathways. See the CBE website for more information https://cbe.ab.ca/registration/transfers/high-school-transfers/Pages/default.aspx
School Council- Casino & Fun Lunch
The WDP Fundraising team is hard at work getting ready to staff the Cowboys Casino for March 2 &3! Thank you to everyone who has already signed up. We need upwards of 40 volunteers to make this event a success. Our last casino in the summer of 2023 earned us over $82,000. This money is carefully spent at the school level on a wide range of items including books, technology, sporting equipment, musical instruments, and much more.

There is no experience required; you do not have to deal cards or roll dice; they have trained professionals for this. Your role is supplementary to the casino workers and you are supported by very amazing advisors every step of the way. Curious about a role? Any questions can be sent to our team at: wdprattfundraising@gmail.com or jump on board and grab a slot on the Sign Up above.
