We officially completed our first week together at William D. Pratt! It was wonderful welcoming students and families back and seeing everyone settle into the new school year.

Our staff spent the week establishing classroom routines, building relationships, and helping students become familiar with the school, their classmates, and the many opportunities available at Pratt. Thank you to our families for your support as we get the year underway!


First Week’s Updates

School Council & Parent Society

Welcome Back Event & Bike Trade-Up
All Pratt students and families are invited to our free Welcome Back Event. Families interested in the Bike Trade-Up are welcome to bring a bike to trade. Students must have parent/guardian permission to trade their bike.

Apple Fundraiser
The annual Sun Oka Farms apple fundraiser is back! Families can order 10 lb boxes of Honeycrisp or Ambrosia apples. Orders are due October 6, with delivery expected in mid-to-late October.

Casino Volunteers Needed | October 6 & 7
The Fundraising Society is looking for volunteers for its casino at Elbow River Casino.

School Council Meeting | September 16 at 6:00 PM
Join us in the William D. Pratt staff room. School Council is also currently looking for a co-chair.

Reporting an Absence

If your child will be absent, please:

Grade 5 Literacy & Numeracy Screeners

All Grade 5 students will participate in the Alberta Education and Childcare literacy and numeracy screeners between September 14 and October 2, unless an approved exemption applies.

Families will receive additional information shortly. Parents/guardians who believe an exemption may be required can submit a written request to the principal beginning September 8. Screening results will be shared with families within six weeks following the administration period.

Grade 6 | Free YMCA Membership

All Grade 6 students are eligible for a FREE YMCA Calgary membership through the Calgary Flames Grade 6 YMCA Membership Program. Memberships are valid until August 31, 2027.

To activate the membership:

  1. Complete the Grade 6 YMCA Membership Form.
  2. Request proof of enrolment by emailing williamdpratt@cbe.ab.ca. Please submit these requests by email only.
  3. Bring the completed form and proof of enrolment to any YMCA Calgary location with a parent or guardian.

Athletics & Activities

Cross-Country
The cross-country team is underway. Please contact Mr. Auer for practice and race information.

Soccer
Tryouts are underway. Students should check the bulletin board in the student gathering space or the Athletics section of the school website for dates and times.

Basketball
Basketball tryouts begin September 9. This year, Pratt will run senior basketball teams only due to coaching availability. Grade 7 students are eligible to try out. Grade 6 students will have opportunities for skill development through Mini Mavs.
